a not too spoilery synposis -

Growing older is pretty rough and Kenji is finding out just how hard it can be as life starts wearing down on him. On top of trying to make ends meet running a convenience store he has to care for the niece that his missing sister left in his care. Memories of youth make it easier, until those memories come back to haunt him.

Kenji and his old friends are slowly being drawn into a mysterious conspiracy that could threaten the world. Who is the mysterious "Friend" and how does he tie into Kenji's youth? Why are there disappearances and deaths tied into Ochanomizu University? Their memories hold the keys to the puzzle, but time and age have clouded their minds.

The strange occurrences and the reach of the "Friend" conspiracy grow by the day. It will all culminate on New Year's Eve 2000. Will Kenji and the others be able to put together the puzzle and save the world?

This looks awesome really. I want to see more.
Fudogs Gonna Fumamath on March 3rd, 2008 04:42 am (UTC)
Spider cadets yaaaay! I can't wait to see their outfits?? (Unless I missed them already I guess. That is possible)

Manga? Uuuh. Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix is a must-read but sort of hard to come by... I enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist when I was reading it but I've stopped keeping up with the releases now. FMA manga > FMA anime by far! Planetes is good and gets bonus points for being short (4 volumes). Chrno Crusade is pretty good - another short one at only 8 volumes. Depends on your tastes of course...

i love these subtle colors! i cant' stop starin at their shoes! i can't wait to see the suits, coleman, you are going to rock the house! that last guy is my favorite.

maison ikkoku at the library is cool too! i second anything by osamu, oh and usagi yojimbo!

These are wonderful. I am particularly fond of the girl with the stripey shirt and the green shirt+shorts fellow.

Well #$@*! This is making me angry, because it's sooo good. The designs are wonderful and very distincive, a difficult thing to master.

As for Manga.....you have to read Nausicaa (of the valley of wind), not only because is it great, but it's done by Hayao Miyazaki; the Anime Genius!!!

I'm still blown away by it.

but yeah, totally great.
I don't read manga really but the Scott Pilgrim books look pretty sweet.

ahhh I love these :)

my absolutely favouritest manga ever are
one piece (seriously so epic and amazing.. possibly my favourite comic EVER) http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/
BERSERK (absolutely brutal) http://www.onemanga.com/Berserk/
eyeshield 21 (so heartwarming and awesome) http://www.onemanga.com/Eyeshield_21/
fullmetal alchemist (has a LONG and wellthough story, dont let the horrible anime and fanbase fool you, this manga is really good) http://www.onemanga.com/Full_Metal_Alchemist/
and I also like gokusen a lot. I dont have anything special to say about it though http://www.onemanga.com/Gokusen/

Wow, these are great! I love the zip tones.

As for manga reccomendations? Well, I'm a big Akira Toriyama fanatic...I think you might like Dr. Slump. Also a HUGE reccomendation for a more recent series of his called "COWA!" If you can find a scanlation of that, you totally should read it. It's only one volume, but I think it would be up your alley...

I'm also a big fan of One Piece. Probably the most inventive and original voice in shonen manga today. My other favorite manga series is 20th Century Boys. That is simpley incredible.
Jamie Baldwinpassive_mission on March 3rd, 2008 01:56 pm (UTC)
well.. if you like Lum, you might like Maison Ikkoku, Ranma ½, Mermaid Saga... all by Rumiko Takahashi...

Other things by Shirow: Appleseed, Dominion Tank Police...
colleen macIsaacgalsan on March 3rd, 2008 02:15 pm (UTC)
hoorah! great designs.

I'm in love with Yotsuba&! these days.
My favorite Shirow is Orion - it's more organic than his other work.
And of course everyone knows I really like the FLCL books.
Short Cuts is pervy, but funny.
If no one has suggested Domu yet, then surely you must read that one if you haven't already.

Beautiful characters. I love the deconstructed nose scheme. I'm doing something like that, but it's different so we don't have to fight.

Read Drifting Classroom by Umezzu! You'll love it!

Well a lot of people have already suggested Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix, and I agree with that rec. But if you can't find it, you might want to check out Tezuka's Buddha series as well. It's a little easier to come by (book stores are more likely to have multiple different volumes, whereas Phoenix only appears in single, random volumes), and it's a very nice little underrated manga gem.

And I read this back when I was thirteen, and loved it, so there's a chance it's not actually good, but you might want to check it out in case it is good: Kia Asamiya's Steam Detectives. You're probably best off looking for scans online.
